Doctor Finlay was a BBC television programme around in the 1960s. When the Sixth Doctor ended Peri Brown's history tour in 1963 with a programme about a doctor, Peri believed he was referring to Finlay. (COMIC: The (Final) Doctor Who History Tour)

Doctor Finlay is also referenced in the invalid comic story The Year Ahead. As the Seventh Doctor waits outside BBC Television Centre in 1992, the BBC announce its revival, heralding the return of a classic 1960s series about a doctor.
