David Minett was a 20th century British soldier who fought in World War I. He was born in the late 19th century by 1893[1] and grew up with his sister, Mary Minett, in England. The siblings spent most of their childhoods in the city, but frequently visited the family's summer retreat on the outskirts of Hawkswick village in North Yorkshire with their grandfather and father. David had a love for music and his favourite piece was Chopin's first piano concerto. On his twenty-first birthday, David's sister gifted him a watch that played a twenty-nine note melody reminiscent of one of Mozart's. The watch was about a century old and his father acquired it while travelling in Switzerland. He treasured the gift, and kept it with him every day until he left to fight in France and gave the watch to Mary for safekeeping until he returned. David, however, died at the Somme and never returned home. (PROSE: Casualties of War)

Footnotes Edit

  1. PROSE: Casualties of War establishes that David was at least twenty-one years old when he left to fight in World War I. As TV: The War Games establishes the conflict began in 1914, he must have been born during or before 1893.
