Biography[edit | edit source]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Barton was born in Bromsgrove and was of British African-Caribbean heritage. As a child, he lived on a council estate and his family couldn't afford to go abroad. He attended a local comprehensive school, where he was inspired by a computer science teacher. As one of the few non-white faces at his school, he struggled to fit in and often spent time in his bedroom with his computer. He began small, building a knowledge base with the aim of connecting people with data. (TV: Spyfall)
Founding VOR and work with MI6[edit | edit source]
Barton started VOR in 1991 after he developed a search algorithm for internal company networks. His software was used in a series of national and international networks that joined to become part of the World Wide Web and led to the boom of the dot com era. His algorith, thus, became the biggest search engine on Earth.
He worked as an SIS informant from 1992 until his withdrawal in 2012. During this period, he provided information of digital and technological developments in Far East countries, such as Japan and China, with details of their intentions in the Western Market. He withdrew his cooperation from the intelligence service when he failed to turn up for scheduled meetings with his handler in New York. The CIA suspected him of being a double or triple agent to unknown agencies. (TV: Spyfall)
As CEO of VOR[edit | edit source]
In 2020 or sometime prior, Barton formed an alliance with the Master and the Kasaavin and planned to turn people on Earth into hard drives. He also tested the Kasaavin's technology on himself, which left him 93% human. Barton later had his mother killed by the Kasaavin for not being proud of him for his achievements and for moving to San Francisco.
