The Daleks pose an existential threat to all life in the known universe. In order for field operatives to form better strategies to contain or eliminate this menace, data has been collected about these creatures, from their origins on the planet Skaro to their campaign of galactic domination throughout space and time.
The Dalek Combat Training Manual was a guide to the Daleks for Time Lords preparing for battle in the Last Great Time War, written at least in part by the Eleventh General. The information within was, according to the General, willingly taken from the Doctor's memories as well as the Matrix, including events from the Doctor's relative future. The entries within the manual were annotated by the General on how the Time Lords might take advantage of the various Dalek weaknesses that the Doctor had exposed, although it warned that any entries in the Doctor's relative future should only be taken as theoretical. Sensitive materials, such as the Eternal Dalek or the Hybrid, and predictions about the end of the Time War, such as the Fall of Gallifrey or the Siege of Trenzalore, were redacted by the War Council. The manual was published at a stage in the War where the Time Lords were attempting to locate Susan, (PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual [+]Richard Atkinson and Mike Tucker, BBC Books (2021).) preceding her accepting Gallifrey's request to join the war effort despite the objections of the Eighth Doctor. Intelligence[]
The Dalek Combat Training Manual identified nine distinct types of Dalek casing: Type I Daleks were basic slatless Daleks, Type II Daleks were distinguished by solar energy collection discs and enlarged Dalek fenders, Type III Dalek drones were still silver with "low-frequency" blue sense globes but now sported slats, Type IV Daleks were grey with black sense globes in a replication of Davros's Mark III Travel Machine prototypes, Type V Daleks were modified silver Daleks with "multiphase" black sense globes, the Type VI Dalek were the prototype white Daleks with gold sense globes and were refined in the Type VII Dalek, the Type VIII Dalek drones were bronze with gold sense globes, and the Type IX Dalek casings were associated with the New Dalek Paradigm.
