- Reversible DVD sleeves enabled the collector to display one of two designs featuring either the Doctor and his enemies or his companions.

- The Doctor endangers the whole of human history when he accidentally brings a splinter of the Mandragora Hellix to Renaissance Italy. This malevolent alien entity wastes no time in bewitching Hieronymous, leader of the outlawed Brotherhood of Demnos, who plans to murder his own brother and seize control of the Dukedom of San Martino. With Earth itself at stake, can the Doctor and Sarah Jane prevent all hell from breaking loose at the masque of Mandragora?

- The audio drama Doctor Who and the Pescatons was recorded during filming of The Masque of Mandragora.
- Ragnarok means "the final destiny of the gods" and is an ancient Viking name for the final battle which would threaten to destroy the Earth.
- The character Sylvia Noble was originally conceived as "Moira", mother of an unused companion called Penny by Russell T Davies.
- Dick and Will Kempe were based on real actors that were part of a group of actors known as the Chamberlain's Men, set up in 1594 by James Burbage. By the time of The Shakespeare Code, they numbered thirteen plus Shakespeare.
- Dick's line in The Shakespeare Code ("The eye should have contentment where it rests") is a quote from the 1965 story The Crusade.
- The Peking Homunculus was created as a plaything for the children of the Commissioner of the Icelandic Alliance in the 51st century.
- The Aplans of Alfava Metraxis were a race of highly cultured humanoids with two heads, each having its own personality and intelligence.
- The Sontaran Experiment was only the second Doctor Who story to be shot on location using Outside Broadcast (OB) video cameras.
