Clive Merrison (born 15 September 1945[1]) appeared in two Doctor Who television stories: as Jim Callum in The Tomb of the Cybermen and the Deputy Chief Caretaker in Paradise Towers. He also voiced Sir Frederick Maltravers in the BBV Productions audio story The Barnacled Baby and George Augustus in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio story The Contingency Club.
He was also considered for the roles of Persuasion in Four to Doomsday (TCH 34), Roger Scobie, Andrew Bilton and Douglas Sheard in Time-Flight (TCH 35), Nilson in Warriors of the Deep (TCH 38), Gustave Lytton in Resurrection of the Daleks, Merdeen in The Mysterious Planet (TCH 42), Crozier in Mindwarp and Doland in Terror of the Vervoids.
He shared his memories of The Tomb of the Cybermen and Paradise Towers on the 170th edition of Big Finish's charity podcast series Toby Hadoke's Who's Round. He also featured on The Doctor's Table: Season 24.
Career[]
Merrison has had several recurring roles on television, e.g. Reilly, Ace of Spies (as Boris the Russian), Kit Curran (as Damien Appleby) and The Borgias (as Ascanio Forza). One-off appearances include the likes of Yes, Prime Minister, Foyle's War, The Bill and Peep Show.
Merrison's theatre appearances include The Madness of George III at the Royal National Theatre, The Front Page at the Old Vic and Much Ado About Nothing for the Royal Shakespeare Company.[2]
On radio he has played Sherlock Holmes, a role played in other media by Peter Cushing, Tom Baker, Jonathan Pryce and Nicholas Briggs.
He also played the character "Tanaka" in a radio adaptation of the James Bond novel You Only Live Twice, which starred Michael Jayston as Bond.[3]
