Cardinal Catilin was a custodian of the Vatican's Collection of Necessary Secrets during the late 18th century.

When Marielle Duquesne was sent to examine the Collection for Napoleon Bonaparte, Catilin gave her a tour of some of the exhibits. Later, when parts of the Collection came to life due to the influence of the Carnival Queen, the sight of the moving skeletons and their pleas to hear their confessions drove the cardinal insane.
