Braces (clothing)

Braces were an article of clothing primarily designed to hold up trousers by anchoring them to the shoulders.

Worn by the Doctor[]

The First Doctor wore black braces (TV: An Unearthly Child), but this was barely seen as he wore a waistcoat over them.

The Second Doctor kept up his tartan trousers with either red braces with yellow patterns (TV: The Power of the Daleks) white braces with a red flowers pattern, (TV: The Three Doctors) yellow braces with dark, vertical lines, (TV: The Five Doctors) or yellow braces with a flower pattern between two yellow and black vertical lines. (TV: The Two Doctors)

The Fourth Doctor kept his burgundy trousers up with a pair of braces with a flowery design. (TV: Meglos)

The Fifth Doctor spent his first hours with the Fourth Doctor's braces before switching. (TV: Castrovalva) He also wore braces with question marks. (TV: Planet of Fire)

The Sixth Doctor wore copies of the Fifth Doctor's braces. (TV: Vengeance on Varos)

The Seventh Doctor wore burgundy braces either dragged over (TV: Time and the Rani) or tucked under his beige sweater vest with turquoise zig-zags and cherry question marks. (TV: Paradise Towers)

The Eleventh Doctor wore braces in burgundy. (TV: The Eleventh Hour)

The Thirteenth Doctors wore braces in mustard yellow, (TV: The Woman Who Fell to Earth-Revolution of the Daleks) or midnight blue. (TV: The Halloween Apocalypse-The Power of the Doctor)
