Boy's Own Paper

Boy's Own Paper (or Boy's Own) was a magazine which published adventure stories.

In April 1914, John Smith bowled a ball at a boy reading a copy of Boy's Own, who used the rolled-up paper to knock it back. (PROSE: Human Nature [+]Paul Cornell, Virgin New Adventures (Virgin Books, 1995).)

Graham Greene once described Alan Turing's voice as being "husky with the excitement of a Boy's Own adventure." (PROSE: The Turing Test [+]Paul Leonard, BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures (BBC Books, 2000).)

Liz Shaw compared her adventure with the Third Doctor on Salutua to something out of Boy's Own a number of times. (PROSE: The Eye of the Giant [+]Christopher Bulis, Virgin Missing Adventures (Virgin Books, 1996).)

Sarah Jane Smith thought that Harry Sullivan looked like the hero of a Boy's Own Paper adventure, reminding her of Biggles and Bulldog Drummond. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Giant Robot [+]Terrance Dicks, adapted from Robot (Terrance Dicks), Target novelisations (Target Books, 1975).) She later thought of him as a Boy's Own fan who wanted to play at being James Bond. (PROSE: Hello Goodbye [+]Error: Code 2 - no data stored in variables, cache or SMW.)

The Brigadier thought that the Sixth Doctor's story sounded like it was straight out of a Boy's Own annual. (PROSE: The Shadow in the Glass [+]Justin Richards and Stephen Cole, BBC Past Doctor Adventures (BBC Books, 2001).)
