Blood is an essential fluid of many life forms, Gallifreyans and Humans included.
Significance
Food
Some organisms consumed blood in order to survive, namely Vampires, Haemovores and Plasmavores. (DW: State of Decay, The Curse of Fenric, Smith and Jones)
