Bertie Stopford was the United Kingdom ambassador to the Russian Empire in 1916.

During World War I, he worked with Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, the paternal grandfather of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, in British intelligence in Russia. However, he was forced to return to the United Kingdom in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917. (PROSE: The Wages of Sin)
