Bass Reeves was a United States Deputy Marshal and former slave.

He was rumoured to have knocked out his owner and ran north on the outset of the American Civil War. After the end of the war, there was no longer slavery in the United States. As a Deputy Marshal, Reeves, aided by the scout Joey Two Trees, went into the Indian Territory to track down wanted men. In 1880, they saved Bill Potts from being held hostage by the wanted killer Seth Shelton, and had Shelton arrested, intending him to be taken to Arkansas to stand trial. Joey showed the Twelfth Doctor and Reeves that a stag had its heart ripped out of its body. They saw a group of Stikini carry Bill away to a ceremony being performed by the Seminole medicine woman Totika. The Doctor and Reeves freed Bill from her capture, but the ceremony caused her to swap her body with the Stikini Cocheta in the Red Skies, a region in the Dreamspace the Stikini were native to. The Doctor incapacitated Cocheta with his sonic screwdriver, and Reeves and Joey helped the Doctor tie up Cocheta so the Doctor could speak to Bill in the Dreamspace. When Bill and the Seminole banished by Totika escaped from the Dreamspace, Reeves and Joey saved the Doctor's life before the Stikini's bodies were forced back into the Red Skies. Reeves and Joey destroyed the totem used in Totika's ceremonies. Afterwards, the sky opened up, and the group saw the Stikini get burnt by an unknown force in the Red Skies. (COMIC: The Parliament of Fear)

In 1882, Reeves visited Totika again to give her a few supplies. He stated that he knew what it was like to be an outsider and understood Totika's feelings of anger at the loss of her child and wanted to give her a second chance, despite not agreeing with her actions with the Stikini. He was then interrupted by the appearance of a TARDIS, from which General Kenossium emerged, wishing to recruit him and Totika. It was later revealed that the Doctor had asked Kenossium to do this to act as his "cavalry" during his investigation of the Clockwise Men.

The three of them travelled to 2018 London, although Reeves was left startled and confused by the concept of time travel and the sights of London itself. With Kenossium sensing the Doctor's presence, trapped in Alexander Truscott's house, she and Reeves saved the Doctor's group, providing enough of a distraction to allow them all to escape and meet up with Totika. Reeves was part of the group that entered the Dreamspace to counter Fey Truscott-Sade's attacks, although he was quickly stopped when attempting to attack her. Once the situation was resolved, Reeves admitted that he had not helped much, but the Doctor denied this and promised that Kenossium would shortly return him to his own time.
