Barbara Shelley (13 February 1932-4 January 2021) played Sorasta in the Doctor Who television story Planet of Fire.

She was also considered for the roles of Madge Cranleigh in Black Orchid, Tanha in Snakedance (TCH 36), Jane Hampden in The Awakening and Faroon in Time and the Rani.

She appeared in BBV Productions' audio story The Other Side in the role of Ace's nan.

Career

Shelley is undoubtedly best known for her appearances in various Hammer horror films such as The Gorgon, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Rasputin the Mad Monk and Quatermass and the Pit. She also appeared in Village of the Damned.

She appeared in television series such as The Avengers, Z-Cars, Blake's 7, Bergerac and EastEnders and played Elaine Smythe in twelve of the thirteen episodes of Oil Strike North.
