Barbara Clegg (born 1 March 1926[1]) wrote the Doctor Who television story Enlightenment and created the basic concept behind The Lost Stories audios Point of Entry and The Elite, each based on storylines she proposed for the TV series.

Career[]

Originally an actor, Clegg moved on to write for radio. She wrote an adaptation of The Chrysalids. She went on to write for television, including a number of scripts for shows such as Coronation Street and Crossroads. Eventually, she came to write for Doctor Who, largely because her children were fans.

The 2|entertain documentary Single Write Female explored Clegg's career as an actor and a writer. Its title implicitly acknowledges her status as the first female writer on the show. She also contributed to the audio commentary for the DVD release of Enlightenment, as well as the documentary Winner Takes All.
