The Arctic was the region around the Earth's North Pole and opposite Antarctica and the South Pole.

In 1983, a Soviet submarine beneath the North Pole picked up the frozen Skaldak and thawed him out. When he awoke he was attacked by a cattle prod. He subsequently tried attacking humanity by launching a nuclear missile from the submarine, knowing that it would cause retaliation in the form of mutually assured destruction. On 4 May 2010, a GSO geological dig uncovered a Cyber-ship and Cybermen who had crashed there ten thousand years before. The Cybermen were reactivated.
