Arctic

The Arctic was the region around the Earth's North Pole and opposite Antarctica and the South Pole.

Around 3000 BC, the Ice Warrior Skaldak was frozen in the ice beneath the North Pole. (TV: Cold War)

Circa 1000 BC, a Vondraxian orb was buried under the Arctic. It was found in 1953 by archaeologist, Edgar Nelson-Stanley. (PROSE: Trace Memory)

In 1943, a Royal Navy vessel which Mike Smith's father was serving on was lost in the Arctic Sea while running weapons to the Russians. (PROSE: Remembrance of the Daleks)

In 1983, a Soviet submarine beneath the North Pole picked up the frozen Skaldak and thawed him out. After being attacked with a cattle prod upon awakening, Skaldak tried to launch a nuclear missile from the submarine, knowing that it would cause retaliation in the form of mutually assured destruction. On 4 May 2010, a GSO geological dig uncovered a Cyber-ship and Cybermen who had crashed in the Arctic ten thousand years before. The Cybermen were reactivated and almost escaped with the help of expedition members converted into Cyberslaves, but were stopped by the Eleventh Doctor. (GAME: Blood of the Cybermen)

Several cities in the Arctic, such as New Glasgow and New Montreal, were created in the 26th century to control overcrowding of the Earth's population. Families outside the Arctic cities were restricted to one child. (TV: Frontier in Space)
