Richard Carnac Temple was the recognised authority on the Andoman islanders, and he co-wrote a treatise on their language. In Arthur Conan Doyle's The Sign of the Four, Sherlock Holmes's description of the islanders drew from Temple's accounts. (PROSE: The Book of the War)
