Alice in Wonderland was the title of a book by Lewis Carroll from Earth, as well as the general name by which the book and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, were collectively known.

The titular character of the book was inspired by Alice Liddell, Lewis Carroll's neighbour in Oxford, (PROSE: The Wildthyme Effect) and according to one account, Wonderland indeed existed beneath the Earth's crust, inhabited by many of the characters described in the book. The first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was published by MacMillan on 4 July 1865. (PROSE: The Brakespeare Voyage)
