Aftershocks was the second story in the audio anthology Genesis, produced by Big Finish Productions. It was written by Lou Morgan and featured Colin Baker as the Warrior, Seán Carlsen as Narvin and introduced Geoffrey Beevers as the Warrior's universe's Master.
Publisher's summary[]
The ripples are spreading out. The Warrior is on trial. Or is he? No-one's willing to tell him his crime so how can he know if he's guilty? And who is trying him anyway?
Part One[]
On Gallifrey, The Warrior, newly regenerated after a forced regeneration, is interrogated by Narvin of the Celestial Intervention Agency. Suffering severe post-regeneration trauma and amnesia, The Warrior cannot recall the crime he is accused of but identifies himself by his new title. Narvin leaves him imprisoned to recover. In his cell, The Warrior is visited by The Master, who seems aware of the situation, taunts him about his memory loss and hints at a past atrocity committed by The Warrior involving the destruction of an entire race's future on Skaro. Before departing, The Master gives The Warrior a green marble object – a Caricent Particum.
Part Two[]
Narvin monitors The Warrior, skeptical of his amnesia. The Warrior experiences confusing memory flashes. A diplomatic communication arrives from Commander Esk of the Unified Skaroan Alliance (a post-destruction Kaled/Thal government). Esk demands The Warrior be handed over to Skaro for trial, revealing Skaro now possesses Time Lord technology. Narvin refuses. The Master reappears to The Warrior, claiming The Warrior engineered his own memory loss and planted clues (including the Particum) before regenerating as part of a larger plan.
Part Three[]
The Master explains the Caricent Particum is an Oubliette, a prison potentially containing nested particles and immense energy, hinting at its danger if breached. Narvin, monitoring, dismisses The Master's appearance as a hallucination caused by The Warrior's regeneration trauma. Commander Esk arrives in orbit above Gallifrey with a war fleet, including the Twin Dalek, demanding The Warrior's extradition.
Part Four[]
Under pressure, Narvin agrees to hand The Warrior over to Esk. The Warrior accuses Narvin of playing into a trap orchestrated by The Master. The Master confirms his alliance with Esk via viewscreen. He reveals the Particum contains a powerful consciousness imprisoned by the Time Lords long ago, which he planned to unleash into Gallifrey's Matrix using The Warrior as the delivery mechanism. Realising the devastating potential, The Warrior smashes the Particum, releasing the entity into the Matrix. As the Matrix destabilises, The Master escapes. The Warrior convinces Narvin to release him, arguing that as the one whose actions led to this, he must be the one to deal with the consequences – the "aftershocks".
