Afterlife was the one hundred and eighty-first story in Big Finish's monthly range. It dealt with the aftermath of companion Hex's death at the end of AUDIO: Gods and Monsters.

Publisher's summary

Hex is dead. And a distraught Ace holds the Doctor responsible.

She forces him to take a trip to 21st century Liverpool to break the news to Hex's beloved nan and, to pay tribute to Thomas Hector Schofield, the pair seek out his family and friends to tell them of his adventures. They're helped by Private Sally Morgan, who has her own peace to find.

The Doctor, Ace and Sally must each face the fallout of the loss of their friend - to commemorate him, remember him, and finally to move on. But can they do it together, or will their attempts drive them apart?

  • TARDIS rooms get deleted/jettisoned into the time vortex.
  • Ace has been with the Doctor so long she actually doesn't know how old she is supposed to be.
  • After winning so much against Fenric and Weyland, Hex made a deal with Koloon to return to life on Earth for one year. However, she declined to tell him that he would lose his memories.
  • Hilda watches Countdown.
  • When mentioning companions who may be dead out in the universe he mentions Evelyn & Mel.

  • This story was recorded on 15 and 16 July 2013.
  • The episodes are given individual titles in the script. Part one is "After Hex," part two is "Absent Friends," part three is "The Gangs of New Hoylake," and part four is "Should Old Acquaintance Be Forgot."
