Adiel was a human agri-technician working at Agricultural Technology Unit 12 in the 22nd century. Following the events at Mount Tarsus, she became the unit's Acting Director.

Biography[]

Originally from Moundou, Adiel's parents were killed during factional fighting, an event that deeply shaped her character. She became an agri-technician, working for Edet Fynn's "Food Squad." In 2118, she and her colleague Kanjuchi were investigating newly-excavated lava tubes when they encountered a golden "magma-form" substance. After Kanjuchi was consumed by it, a terrified Adiel fled and alerted the others, setting in motion the Tenth Doctor's involvement.

Initially, Adiel appeared to be just a technician, but she was secretly a student activist working against what she perceived as Fynn's bio-piracy. She had arranged to meet with Talib, a leader from the nearby village of Gouronkah, to set a trap for a local rebel group. Her plan was to expose the rebels to the unit's security, while also hoping the incident would trigger an official inquiry into Fynn's affairs. She trapped Rose Tyler and Basel in a tunnel to prevent them from interfering.

Her plan went awry with the arrival of the Wurms and the revelation of the Valnaxi. She worked alongside the others to survive, developing a complex relationship with Fynn, who she suspected was involved in her parents' disappearance. She was horrified to learn that Fynn had been experimenting on human corpses—including, possibly, her parents'—in his attempts to create a new food source.

During the final battle, Adiel helped fight Jaxamillian Faltato to retrieve the Doctor's sonic screwdriver. She was among those who survived the eruption of the Valnaxi ship. In the aftermath, with Fynn dead, Adiel was appointed Acting Director. She decided to keep Fynn's unethical experiments a secret to prevent corporate takeover and instead planned to use the Wurms' super-fertile landing muck to benefit the people of Africa, vowing to lead the unit toward a more ethical and independent future. Personality[]

Adiel was a short and "sparky" woman who was driven and fiercely independent. Hardened by the loss of her parents, she was often on edge and initially distrustful of outsiders like the Doctor. She possessed a strong sense of justice and idealism, which led her to student activism and her secret plot against Fynn and the local rebels. Despite her tough exterior, she was capable of fear and vulnerability, but also showed great courage when faced with overwhelming threats. She was ultimately pragmatic, choosing to bury Fynn's dark secrets for what she saw as the "greater good" of her people. (PROSE: The Art of Destruction)

Notes[]

  • Adiel owned a "data-get" (a handheld scanner) which the Doctor later modified to broadcast his anti-golem serum.
  • She also wore a necklace made of tektites that she had acquired from women in Gouronkah. The tektites were of alien origin and contained traces of the Valnaxi magma-form.
