ASBO

Ms Millicent Davies applied to get the Ninth Doctor an ASBO after she banned him from the York Central Library for defacing biographies, so that the Doctor would be banned from all UK libraries. (PROSE: Have You Seen This Man? [+]various authors, Who is Doctor Who? (BBC, 2005).)

The Tenth Doctor expected the students at Deffry Vale High School to be "happy slapping hoodies with ASBOs and ringtones". (TV: School Reunion [+]Toby Whithouse, Doctor Who series 2 (BBC One|BBC One]], 2006).)

When Clyde mocked Rani Chandra's habit of believing aliens were behind unusual events in 2009, he jokingly conjectured that his bike had been stolen by "E.T. the ASBO". (TV: Mona Lisa's Revenge [+]Phil Ford, The Sarah Jane Adventures series 3 (BBC One, 2009).)

Tia Karim referred to Rani Chandra, Santiago Jones and Clyde Langer as "three ASBO kids". (TV: Death of the Doctor [+]Russell T Davies, The Sarah Jane Adventures series 4 (CBBC, 2010).)

Behind the scenes[]

This is likely a reference to real life ASBOs (Anti-Social Behaviour Orders). These were civil orders introduced in the United Kingdom in 1998 against individuals who had been involved in anti-social behaviours such as drunken or threatening behaviour. This was abolished in England and Wales in 2014 but remained in use in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The term ASBO would often be used as an accusing insult in reference to how someone was acting, how they looked, or their class.
