A48

The A48 was a major road which ran from at least the west of England to South Wales. It interlinked with the M4. (TV: The Categories of Life)

Geography[]

Part of the A48 was located just west of Gloucester, from where it ran south-west, roughly parallel to the River Severn. It passed through Blakeney on the south-eastern outskirts of Dean Forest Park, then crossed the Welsh border. (TV: The Categories of Life)

Part of the A48 swerved west upon approach towards the Bristol Channel and went through Bonvilston then swerved north-west. It then passed through both Bridgend and Pyle, before meeting with the M4 at junction 38. (TV: The Categories of Life, PROSE: Bay of the Dead)

Part of the A48 continued from the termination of the M4 at junction 49. It ran north-west, swerving west through Cross Hands and terminated at Carmarthen where it crossed the Afon Tywi and joined the A40. (TV: The Categories of Life)

History[]

In the late 2000s, Joe Hargreaves, along with his wife Jackie, was driving along the A48 from Llandaff to his home in Cowbridge when the pair were caught in a thick bank of fog. Joe crashed the car during a collision with a lopsided figure. (PROSE: Bay of the Dead)

The A48 appeared on Mary Cooper's map of overflow camps in and around Wales. (TV: The Categories of Life)
