A calendar showing June 1926. (TV: Carnival of Monsters)

23 June was a date.

Events

The Eighth Doctor, along with companions Samson and Gemma Griffin, visited Edward Grainger for his 50th birthday party in 1956, which was celebrated the day before his birthday. They helped to get rid of a ghost which had been haunting the family. (PROSE: Dear John)

One account[nb 1] dates the first day of the Year That Never Was as this day in 2007. (PROSE: The Paradox Moon) Other accounts date it as beginning in March 2008 (AUDIO: Recruits) or on 9 June in an unspecified year. (PROSE: The Secret Lives of Monsters)

One account dates this day in 2019 as when UNIT was disbanded. A guide for time travellers noted this as a great place and time to pick up forbidden alien artefacts on the cheap. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary) Another account placed the disbanding in 2017. (TV: Survivors of the Flux)

Births and deaths

In 1994, Samuel Lloyd was born. (TV: The Mad Woman in the Attic)

Other

According to a calendar aboard the SS Bernice, 23 June 1926 was a Sunday. (TV: Carnival of Monsters)

Behind the scenes

Page 120 of The Secret Lives of Monsters gives Sunday 4 June as the date of the events of Smith and Jones [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who series 3 (BBC One, 2007). and the Royal Hope incident, and thus, through mentions given in The Sound of Drums, it can be inferred that The Year That Never Was began on Friday 9 June. However, Secret Lives does not specify 2007 or 2008 as a current year. On top of this, the first two Sunday 4 Junes and Friday 9 Junes after 2004 (page 119 places the incident over 30 years after 1974) are in 2006 and 2017.
