1985 was a year in which a number of events important to the production of Doctor Who and its spin-offs occurred.

  • 1 February - Studio filming concluded on Revelation of the Daleks, with a session at TV Centre Studio 8. [1]
  • 4 February - Studio production concluded on Revelation of the Daleks, with a gallery-only session in TV Centre Studio 5. This concluded Doctor Who production for Season 22. Being the last production work prior to the announcement of 27 February, at the time, this appeared to be the final production session for the show as a whole ever. Production on Doctor Who resumed more than a year later.[1]
  • 27 February - The BBC announced it was suspending Doctor Who after the conclusion of the current season, effectively cancelling the series. Fan protest ultimately resulted in the series returning in 1986 after an eighteen-month hiatus.
  • 9 September - The BBC launched "Children's BBC", a dedicated block of programming aimed at children. Later rebranded CBBC, beginning in 2007 the block became the broadcast home for the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.
