WikipediaInfo

1983 was a year in which a number of events important to the production of Doctor Who and its spin-offs occurred.

  • The BBC announced that Colin Baker - no relation to Tom Baker - had been cast as the Sixth Doctor.
  • 14 October-19 October - Filming for Planet of Fire took place in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, marking the first time Doctor Who was filmed outside the European continent.
  • 19 November - For the first time in nearly ten years, Doctor Who made the cover of the Radio Times. It was another decade before this happened again, making this the last Radio Times cover to be published during the original series' run.
