7 January - Episode four of The Highlanders debuted on BBC1. This was the last purely historical Doctor Who episode until Black Orchid in 1982.
14 January - Episode one of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
14 January - The final instalment of The Daleks comic strip was published in TV Century 21.
21 January - Episode two of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
21 January - The Daleks made their first appearance in the Doctor Who comic strip appearing in TV Comic.
28 January - Episode three of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
4 February - Episode four of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
11 February - Episode one of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1.
18 February - Episode two of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1.
25 February - Episode three of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1.
4 March - Episode four of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1. This was the last use of the original 1963 opening credits sequence and theme arrangement.
11 March - Episode one of The Macra Terror debuted on BBC1. A new title sequence and updated logo and a new arrangement of the theme with added echo debuted; with some adjustments, this theme arrangement remained in use until 1980. This was the first appearance of the lead actor's face in the opening credits, a practice in use until 1989.
18 March - Episode two of The Macra Terror debuted on BBC1.
25 March - Episode three of The Macra Terror debuted on BBC1.
1 April - Episode four of The Macra Terror debuted on BBC1.
8 April - Episode one of The Faceless Ones debuted on BBC1. This was the first Doctor Who script by Malcolm Hulke.
15 April - Episode two of The Faceless Ones debuted on BBC1.
22 April - Episode three of The Faceless Ones debuted on BBC1.
29 April - Episode four of The Faceless Ones debuted on BBC1.
6 May - Episode five of The Faceless Ones debuted on BBC1.
13 May - Episode six of The Faceless Ones debuted on BBC1. This was the final appearance of Michael Craze and Anneke Wills.
20 May - Episode one of The Evil of the Daleks debuted on BBC1.
27 May - Episode two of The Evil of the Daleks debuted on BBC1. This was the first appearance of Deborah Watling as new companion Victoria Waterfield.
3 June - Episode three of The Evil of the Daleks debuted on BBC1.
10 June - Episode four of The Evil of the Daleks debuted on BBC1.
17 June - Episode five of The Evil of the Daleks debuted on BBC1.
24 June - Episode six of The Evil of the Daleks debuted on BBC1.
Unknown date: The Doctor Who and the Daleks comic strip in TV Comic reverted to Doctor Who after Terry Nation withdrew the rights to the Daleks.
1 July - Episode seven of The Evil of the Daleks debuted on BBC1, ending the fourth season.
Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks received its first American paperback publication by Avon Books. This was the first Doctor Who novel to be published in the US and the only American edition published until the late 1970s.
September - The Third Doctor Who Annual was published.
2 September - Episode one of The Tomb of the Cybermen debuted on BBC1, marking the start of Season 5.
