The 1966 World Cup Final, or England vs West Germany, was a football match which ended the 1966 World Cup. (PROSE: The Rag & Bone Man's Story) It was played at Wembley Stadium on 30 July 1966. The match[]
Germany scored first, before Hurst equalised and Martin Peters scored to put England ahead. Germany then scored a late equaliser to send the match into extra time. England took the lead with twenty minutes left, as Hurst scored again, with the ball hitting the crossbar and the lineman declaring the ball to have crossed the line. The match was finished off by Hurst, who scored the final goal right at the end to get his hat trick, with the English fans running onto the pitch as the TV commentator exclaimed "they think it's all over". The match was seemingly heavily influenced by Joseph Galloway, who possessed the alien luck-giving Blessing Star, and watched the match on his TV at home, with the jewel responding to his fervent wish for England's victory over Germany. As he watched the final, the First Doctor, fresh from his victory over WOTAN, found him. The Time Lord had been tracking down the Star so as to tie up loose ends from his last visit to England. To his dismay, he found the Star too late. By then, the Star had started to overload, taking in not just the rag and bones man's wishes, but those of people all over England. The Star allowed England to make a very close shot into the German goal, but no more. It exploded, overwhelmed by the hopes of an entire nation, with the score at 3-2. The Ninth Doctor recalled attending the match, and that one of the goals was because of the linesman. As part of his plan to gradually change history so that humanity would never venture out into space, Igrix changed the result to 5-2 by having the Lend-a-Hand girls give the England team a nutritious meal before the World Cup final to build them up for a greater victory. After the Doctor defeated Igrix' plans, he mentioned that he "oughta fix" the extra goal that was scored. Following his regeneration, the Fourteenth Doctor allowed the TARDIS to take him to the match, in pursuit of a distress signal. He found a group of purple aliens in the crowd who were hiding behind their psychic shields. The group were time tourists, who were present to see a Dalek flying saucer arrive in what was actually a replica of the stadium which was staging an invasion of Earth for entertainment purposes.
