On 12 April, (COMIC: The Pictures of Josephine Day) the Eighth Doctor and Josie Day attended a party at Briarwood House. The party quickly turned to chaos when the Nixi King woke up from his 200 year sleep. The Nixi swarmed at the party, possessing both the servants and the guests. Ultimately, it was not the Doctor or Josie that saved the day, but a boy named Bertie; he inserted a key into the Nixi spaceship and reactivated the Nixi King's stasis chamber. (COMIC: Briarwood)

During the summer, the Fourth Doctor visited Norfolk to find the acclaimed dancer, Ernestina Stott and realised that she and Mrs Wibbsey had been possessed by Hornets. (AUDIO: The Dead Shoes)

Elections were held in Germany in both July and November. Neither returned a majority government but Adolf Hitler and the Nazis eventually came to power off the back of the elections the following January. Before that, the First Doctor visited Fritz Haber at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute, to discuss science. The two of them were apprehended later by German officials, who wanted to know about Haber's latest discovery: a possible way of fabricating gold. If that were true, it could alleviate the economical crisis of the country. The interview came to no result, and the Doctor and Haber were released. The Doctor was then captured once again by Pollitt, a British spy who suspected he knew Haber's secret, especially since the Doctor had earlier exchanged golden coins for money to pay for a taxi. Pollitt had already captured and tortured Susan, but to no effect. The Doctor and Susan tricked him and left. (AUDIO: The Alchemists)

Later in the year, the Chinese and Japanese clashed in Shanghai, but the Western powers looking to protect their own trading centres intervened and defused the crisis.
