Today, Fandom released an update to their VisualEditor, to both the Visual Mode and the Source Mode (aka, '2017 editor'). This is to make your editing experience more accessible and intuitive!
To not miss out on any information, check out this blog and/or the updated help page.
If you're pressed for time, don't worry, I have the key points handy! To summarise, we:
Renamed some of the tools (e.g. "paragraph" is now "normal text")
Shuffled some icons around (e.g. the back and forward arrow buttons are now located on the far left rather than the middle)
Hid some less-essential tools from view to make the initial editor view less overwhelming in all its glory (the tools are still accessible in dropdown menus)
For the 2017 source mode: we removed the options available from the menu icon (those three stacked horizontal bars) -- If you want those back, you can customize your toolbar to access them from there)
For the 2017 source mode: we used the menu icon to replace the gear icon

It's Pride Month!
How's it going, folks? This June, we're celebrating the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community. Whether it be in movies, TV shows, video games, books, music, or just you as a person - we're covering it all.
Our theme for Pride this year is looking back and moving forward. We reflect on the challenges the LGBTQIA+ community faced in the past and continue to face now. The goal is to improve the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people going forwards. We can all help with this and now is the perfect time to educate ourselves and learn how we can contribute.

What can you do to celebrate and reflect?
Want to get involved on your wikis? There's a lot you can do and here are just a few suggestions:
Wiki theme - customise your wiki theme with Pride colours to show your support this month. Check out designs on Wookieepedia, Avatar Wiki, and Encyclopedia SpongeBobia for inspiration!
Highlight people in your franchise - use blogs or Discussions posts to highlight prominent LGBTQIA+ characters or creators in your franchises and their contributions.
Editing projects - start an editing project to improve articles featuring LGBTQIA+ themes. I'm sure editors would love to get involved!
Let's get some conversations going in the comments! Share your favourite LGBTQIA+ characters and creators from your favourite franchise.

Asian American Pacific Islander Month
This May, Fandom is celebrating the contributions of Asian-American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) creators in the entertainment industry for Asian American Pacific Islander Month. The theme this month is Breaking the Mold, breaking down stereotypes and showcasing the incredible work of AAPI creators.
There are so many things Fandom has planned for the event, including an AAPI Spotify playlist, highlighting AAPI artists in a diverse range of genres!

A highly requested feature is now available for ALL admins - Mobile CSS!
This allows admins to customise more areas on mobile including templates, tables, main pages - and more! As long as updates comply to our Customization Policy, you're good to go!

Star Wars Day!
Last but not least, I posted a blog on Community Central celebrating Star Wars Day on May 4, highlighting why Star Wars is awesome and what folks can do to celebrate it. As a long time Star Wars fan, I had so much fun writing it and chatting to users as well as highlighting some years old SpongeBob-Star Wars fan art!

I'm sure some of you may have seen the notification by now, but for those who haven't, and those whose method of using the site precludes such things, recently one of our admins, SOTO, has been nominated for a promotion to bureaucrat status. What's the difference between this and admin status? Well, bureaucrat's can actually manage the user perms of others, granting them adminship, rollback rights, etc.

Women's History Month
Fandom kicked off of the Women's History Month (WHM) celebrations earlier this month and as we approach the second half I wanted to highlight it again as more initiatives are coming this week!
As a reminder, the national theme for this WHM is Embrace Equity. Equitable opportunities should be matched with equitable action to drive progress. This is about making sure there are inclusive spaces promoting equity and belonging - this has a big impact. Equity requires us to be fair and impartial and to shift from considering opportunities to committing to true equality through action.
Fandom initiatives
Spotify playlist - This curated Spotify playlist focuses on intersectionality and specifically shines a light on women of color, LGBTQIA+ women, femme-identifying and non-binary artists, disabled women, and women of other minority groups making strides in music. Gaming stories - We highlighted women, femme-identifying and non-binary people gamers throughout the community. Check out the WHM gaming stories blog!

MediaWiki 1.39 - migrations have started!
As many of you have likely seen from the banners on your wikis, migrations to MediaWiki 1.39 have started! This is just a reminder that if you notice any bugs or have any questions about the migration, feel free to leave a comment here, drop me a message on my message wall, or message me on Discord. So it's been over two years (gah!) since we've had working forums, but for the time being a stopgap measure has been implemented on the wiki in the form of temporary forums. Hopefully we'll be making the shift back to full DPL forums soon, but until then we're using these. If you're interested in shaping policy on this wiki, suggesting what we could be doing differently, please, come down and look to see what we're currently discussing! The only way to have your voice heard is to join the discussion.

Fandom is celebrating Native American Heritage Month this November, to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Native American people. We will also be discussing the challenges the community faces how we can become allies and support each other.
This year on Fandom we are exploring the themes of storytellers and storytelling. We will be involving community members including in a Discord roundtable and a Twitch panel!
In the Discord roundtable, we explore Native American IP including movies, games, television, and more! This roundtable takes place in the Fandom Discord server on Wednesday November 16 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm GMT.

MediaWiki upgrade in 2023

In 2023, wikis will be upgrading to MediaWiki 1.39. This is part of our work on the Unified Community Platform (UCP) to enable us to upgrade MediaWiki regularly to get new features and updates to come with it.
Upgrading ensures we keep tools up to date for editors, with more modern features and improvements on the platform. Upgrading on a regular basis means changes for each upgrade are more manageable compared to if left for longer.
We're looking at an early 2023 period for the update, with backend work starting in November with work on updates on MediaWiki 1.37 being frozen around the holiday period in December. Feel free to message me though if you spot a bug!

Two-factor authentication is coming to Fandom accounts
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is coming to Fandom accounts soon to help increase account security. This is optional and will involve the use of an authenticator app which can be used when you log into your account. This means that if your password is compromised, your account is still secure as there is another barrier in the authenticator app that is needed to be completed. I encourage you to read the staff blog to find out more about this.

Every wanted to know how to be a good admin? Do you want to add the skills you gain from being admin to your resume? Admin+ is the answer! This is still being built, but this free admin certification program is made up of three online courses for eligible admins to take. Once completed, a badge will be awarded, which you can showcase on social media, resumes, or wherever you want!

Last up we have Fandom Stars! This is the ultimate program designed to recognize and amplify Fandom’s most prolific creators and primarily editors, who go the extra mile to help others and serve as ambassadors of communities. Stars become eligible to attend events, giveaways, AMAs, and more! You can become a Fandom Star by taking a brief moment to complete a self-nomination form. I like the Bronze mark 7 shells and the scrap and drone daleks were intresting....as a one off (like the paradime daleks) but I still think the dalek empires default soldiers need new design has anyone seen any good ones online
