@FH2104 yes, i agree. i just meant that blink isnt a great standalone episode and is in general overrated. i disagree abt the church on ruby road, it wasn't a very powerful episode and it felt kind of lame. the woman who fell to earth is incredible and i think its one of the best debuts for dw other than deep breath.

@Shambala108 honestly i think blink is overrated in general- a good novelty episode but not as excellent as other episodes, honestly.

I was thinking of an episode like Torchwood's Adam: the Doctor wakes up to a new companion in the TARDIS and they and their companion have to slowly figure it out. Slow burn, psychological, horror.

@FH2104 completely agree with this. the return of doctor mysterio, husbands of river song, and twice upon a time are some of my favorite episodes. capaldi lends himself to his episodes excellently

I know the star beast is based off a comic but it was a silly idea to make a completely new intergalactic police force when they literally had another one RIGHT THERE.

@FH2104 great point. it's been a while since i've seen series 11 and 12 so maybe my perceptions a tad off? most of my gripes with thirteen's era come from Flux: a fantastic season with a fantastic story- but not a fantastic Doctor. I honestly found her dialoggue and characterization annoying and done badly. Arachnids in the UK- Doctor says killing the spiders is bad, but then proceeds to kill them by crushing them under their own weight. That's my issue with Ten too- the no-kill rule is written weirdly and often confusing.

With Jodie, nothing was clear. We couldn't tell how much her regeneration affected her, how and why she'd changed so much, and her dialogue was just kind of silly imo. What I hated the most was the habit of talking to herself- it wasn't cool or silly like Ten, but seemed forced and gimmicky. I blame this on the direction mainly- There's no way Jodie Whittaker was able to get casted as the Doctor without having some sort of acting talent. She has been in loads of shows (that I haven't seen) but have heard high praises of. Yes, she could be a bad actor- but all the gripes with her era are from writing and direction.

@Falkirkdouglas Badly written means exactly what it sounds like- inconsistently written. It's used most commonly with Jodie but never forget that Ten wasn't written perfectly either. I love Whittaker too, she's a wonderful human being and a lot of my favorite episodes are in her era. She's just badly written.

This is a really cliche statement but i honestly feel like the writing and direction were the issue with Jodie's character, not her acting. she was handed a badly-written, inconsistent character that made stupid decisions and said silly things. The direction wanted her to say those things and make those decisions in ways that were not enjoyable to watch as an audience. All of these Doctors had a gimmick- Capaldi his grumpiness, Smith his joviality, and Tennant his grounded and real acting. Jodie was never allowed to explore anything of the sort. Chibnall wanted her to be the 'nice' doctor- but didn't think far enough into the future to give her any sort of realness or character. Every Doctor has had to go against their nature many times, and those are some of their greatest moments. Jodie was nice & kind her entire tenure- she wasn't given great exposition or powerful scenes. So yes, Jodie's the worst Doctor Who actor- but by no fault of her own.

The Pilot was incredible and I loved it. Smith and Jones and the Eleventh Hour come next for me.

@Snivystorm the fact of the matter is that RTD is copy-pasting a plotline he wrote into the story, again. a spin-off of the fourteenth doctor is silly mainly because

A. david tennant has said goodbye to the show on, like, three different occasions. this cheapens the idea of regeneration

B. i agree with your ideas on the interpretation of regeneration but the fact that these two doctors are literally co-existing in the same timeframe is ridiculous because regeneration is supposed to stir up new emotions, be it happy or sad. this regeneration was soulless- it was clearly a ploy meant to bring in old fans who'd stopped watching the show, and to appease them by letting david tennant continue to keep his role while making a completely new doctor. there's really no other way they could have written it to make the pandering less obvious?

I see the points you're making, I really do. And maybe I'm not phrasing it the right way- but this regeneration cheapened the show and made it nothing but a gimmick.

@Snivystorm i see the logic in your points and i somewhat agree- but the very point of regeneration is to be a sad and tragic event. the doctor is becoming a brand-new person in every sense of the word. by bi-generating, the pain involved with regeneration has just gone away- the fifteenth and fourteenth doctors co-existing is a really silly idea because time travel is a thing- them co-existing is wholly unnecessary. multi-doctor stories work because it's a time travel show. the bi-generation thing is ridiculous because it tampers with a law of the show that's been there for quite some time and a fourteenth doctor spin-off is LITERALLY nothing but cheap and crappy fan-service.

@The Masterbator YES, that's exactly what ive been saying. i wasn't a fan of the disjointed three-episode specials. a three episode serial with the toymaker as the mastermind behind it all would have been absolutely FANTASTIC and that's what i thought this would be. shame :(

@FH2104 definitely see where you're coming from! yes, i agree. i definitely have a lot of issues with moffat's writing, too- but i honestly really liked the arcs that he was able to establish in overarching stories. chibnall, too, honestly. he did create the flux serial which imo was a pretty good season minus the ending.

@CaptainKaibyo no i agree with you so much. the copy/paste of the meta-crisis was lazy and stupid. the fact that 2/3 of these specials have re-used basic plotlines from other episodes (WBY being a copy/paste of midnight, the bi-regeneration thing here) makes me question why the fandom worships RTD so much. moffat would never have pulled this, and as much as it pains me to say it, neither would chibnall.

@Kevin 'Chalky' Kaiba yes that's exactly what i meant! rtd is implying that the timeless child was caused by the toymaker.

@Neosaiyan7 totally get you. the master thing didn't even make sense (and i watched power of the doctor, lol). was hugely confused by that. the classic doctors thing, as someone who hasn't even seen the classic series, is very understandable. the doctor was very whiny here and the writing was beyond lazy. sort-of off-topic: whos ur favorite classic doc? do you have any idea where i can start watching the classic series, should i start at 'an unearthly child' or elsewhere?
