It's over five years since this series first aired. I find that astonishing. That means that for five years I've been trying and failing to identify why precisely I prefer The Ghost Monument to the previous episode. It's brighter, definitely. The story is pleasingly straightforward, and the Remnants are quite an effective monster for this era. I like the characters of Epzo and Angstrom, and I also really like Graham and Ryan trying to fix the boat. The highlight here though for me, undeniably, is Akinola's score. Akinola was one of the biggest successes in this era, and I think will be one of the biggest losses in Who yet to come. "My Beautiful Ghost Monument" is just gorgeous, and filled with a sense of wonder.
