Apologies, this isn't late because I couldn't think of anything, honest! Some episodes you watch and you just know there is no way they were happy with the way it ended up, but there are, of course, positives. The shot of the Tardis floating (although it always looks to me like it's sitting on the bed) at the bottom of the ocean is stunning. I also think that the decision to set it in China—a rarity for Doctor Who—and Akinola's music is laudable, and well-executed. There's so much that would have been gained had this been a classic serial with a more effective build-up, but the one thing that undeniably works is Jodie Whittaker's performance at the end. Yaz's feelings are careful and well-developed, and the line that clinches it is "if I was going to, believe me, it would be with you." She really sells it, and she also sells "you're one of the greatest people I've ever known", a line which is far easier to swallow if you ignore Clara. That's no fault of Chibnall IMO.
