I get that he still would've tried to call his Martian brothers because he's on a planet where he's the only Ice Warrior, but what if he still didn't get a reply? Would he have still tried to figure out what the ship was and launch the missiles because he didn't find anything worth living for?
It always intrigued how we don’t have many Doctor Who stories that involve the Soviet Union/Communism and its many horrors, the only stories we have involving any of these topics are “Last of The Romanov’s”, “Cold War” (sort of) and “The Night Witches” (maybe I haven’t listened to that one yet)
There are many events throughout history that involve the most dangerous dictatorial governmental system I feel would be perfect for a episode or audio CD, from the Spartakist Uprising, Hungarian Uprising, Christmas Revolution, The Holodomor, Russian Civil War, literally anything involving Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, any of history’s Red Terror’s, Chinese Civil War, Cultural Revolution, Huê Massacre and The Great Leap Forward.
Though how knows maybe sooner or later the BBC may make stories out of these historicals…….once they deal with the screeching tankies trying to deny some of these events existence.
The Ice Warriors being my all time favourite Who monster, I was delighted to see them return here, and their redesign looks fantastic. Other highlights include the late great David Warner, and Liam Cunningham as Zhukov—I've not seen Titanic enough times to draw any real comparisons, but he certainly looks Bernard Hill-esque. The model shots of the submarine are also sublime and give the story a real sense of place, which always helps.
