The Inter Minorians speak like politicians. It really annoys me.

It's tacky, but it's meant to be. Although there's a feeling that everything you're looking at is one shade away from being absolutely awful, everyone on the production team seemed to be on the same wavelength, so we can just about buy it.

What I don't buy at all are the sets for the inside of the mini-scope. They look like corridors. They look like they were built to be walked around in, rather than the interior of a machine that the Doctor and Jo are navigating.

Given how imaginative and well thought out the rest of the story is, it's a shame that Kalik is as weak a main villain as he is. Despite Michael Wisher's (as always) great performance, there's just nothing to this character, with his entire motivation being a generic "depose the current ruler" plot that barely gets any depth or explanation to it (we never even meet the person he's plotting against), and with any characterisation he does get being delivered in dull exposition dumps that make him feel entirely disconnected from the rest of what's going on in the story, and like he was just thrown in to give the story some additional stakes.
