@Kevin 'Chalky' Kaiba It may have pleased all in the 19th century, but any viewer today would see that for what it is, which is the wilful othering by omission of anything vaguely resembling those of a non-heterosexual orientation.
@FH2104, I was inverting a line from Diamonds are Forever (airplane scene, Mr Winter and Mr Kidd) with my idea. That said, would the original line, unmodified, work in Who?
Original is that "Miss Case is very attractive for a lady".
@Kevin 'Chalky' Kaiba I think the problem there (or one of them) is that, off the top of my head, Diamonds Are Forever was 1969? Public perception of homosexuality/bisexuality was very different to what it is now. Why would you deliberately try to channel the attitudes of that time into a programme in a different one?
@Timelydia1234 being gay is not a choice I did not choose to be asexual but I am. I like to see characters like me as do my friends. The Doctor becoming a woman helped me come out as gender fluid (again something which was not a choice I just am Gender Fluid) something I would not have done has it not been for that. I would not have come out as Queer had it not be for the eighth Doctor and Fitz having a romance arc in the books (which where oh listed in the90’s) or the Romance between Jack and Nine (confirmed by RTD) back in 2005. Would you take all this away from me and many others?
Representation matters.
@FH2104, Diamonds Are Forever the film was 1971. Still, I remember the scene when Bond and Tiffany fly to the US; Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd are aboard too. Mr. Kidd says he finds Tiffany "quite attractive...for a lady", after which Mr. Wint gives him a look that says "you are sleeping on the couch tonight." Also, there's Mr. Wint's fondness for lady's perfume. Mr Wint and Mr Kidd - "For a Lady" - YouTube There's the scene in question.
I'm not trying to do anything negative...if I were writing the show, and the other writers really wanted to use such themes, I would make a hint or so, see if it was what all fans wanted. Or have our hero be more...not interested in relationships, as in the classic era.
@Timelydia1234 how dare you insult me thusly.
@Timelydia1234 I think it was meant to be an ironic joke, which is probably why it went over your head.
Obviously I reported the comment and thought it was so idiotic it wasn't worth responding to, but since it hasn't been deleted and you're still talking utter garbage I will. You have absolutely no right to insult anyone here—or anywhere—and the ego trip since is simply pitiful.
Learn not to insult people. It really is not hard.
@Timelydia1234 it was not intended to make you feel fear it was simply my last attempt to see if you would apologise for your major social faux pas.
This isn't just for Lydia, but for anybody who has the misfortune to read this:
If you behave or even think like this ^, then you are not one of the good guys, or even just "allowed an opinion". It's not an opinion, it's hate and it's abuse. And it completely demerits (as if there was any doubt) the disgraceful "I'm not homophobic but" discourse re: Gatwa on another post.
@Timelydia1234 The only "fact" is that you don't want him to play the Doctor because he's gay, not that it's impossible. There are two options. Either you genuinely don't think that's homophobic, in which case you're stupid. Or you know it is and pretend anyway, in which case you're a liar. You don't get to decide what homophobia is and isn't just because you don't think it suits you!
