It’s just kinda boring.
Personally, the “real-time” gimmick, while an interesting idea, is very rarely pulled off well.
I love this episode, and think it's one of the best of the season. In fact it's one of my very favourite Tennant episodes in general. But the main fault is the dodgy science. Of course we are rightly expected to suspend our disbelief in Who, but the idea anything, heat shields or no, can scalp the surface of the sun for fuel (much less mine its core) without instantly melting is ridiculous. And then Tennant hanging outside the ship without getting instantly fried. Generally speaking the episode moves so quickly it doesn't get in the way of enjoying it, but when you think about it it's absurd.
There are a lot of these episodes that just don't hit it with me, and I don't know why. They seem to be missing something.
I never liked Martha's "very hot" line after kissing Riley(?) at the end. I love puns, but this one was just bad and felt terribly awkward.
Honestly, a little dull. The villain is an interesting idea but just doesn't come off as the most interesting. It's clear they were trying something reminiscent of the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit, but it just wasn't as interesting. Again, concept good, execution not so much. On top of that, most of the crew are pretty forgettable. It's not a bad episode, I don't hate it, it's just not that interesting. I'd classify it as a stocking stuffer episode.
As for suspension of belief, Doctor Who is more Science Fantasy than Sci-fi, basically closer to Star Wars than Star Trek. That's not a bad thing, but overall, it's mostly goofy nonsense with some philosophical themes. There are exceptions of course, parts that are pretty much hard sci-fi. Again, that's not a criticism, more of a, "don't take any science seriously" kind of statement.
@TroubledSnail17 I completely agree about suspension of disbelief, and I always try to mention that with my comments. I don’t have issues with the Daleks moving planets through space or the Master’s paradox machine, but still, funnily enough, things like the SS Pentallion not exploding just bothers me😂 but that’s just one persons’s persoective
It's the answer to live, the universe and everything
