Gravity or Mavity?

I can understand most of RTD’s thinking but replacing Gravity with “Mavity” sounds so weird. I know it is a science fiction show, but it should show like an accurate history within the past.

As the first doctor said, “you can’t rewrite history, not one line”

I think he’s lost the ball on the second go.

Remember, RTD is very good at adding seemingly meaningless detail that end up being important plot points. The 2 that immediately come to mind are Bad Wolf and DoctorDonna

@Sveinbjorn I don't think it's that none of us want Doctor Who to be funny. I just think "mavity" isn't a joke.

I love the silliness, love a good joke, although I do cringe when a showrunner talks about how funny it's going to be. It's not a comedy, don't try to sell it to me with "it's funny."

Douglas Adams wrote for the show. Doctor Who is very much a comedy, at least sometimes.

@Icecreamdif Hardly the show's greatest moment, though. However, it's true that the show has a long and successful history with comedy. The Romans and The Myth Makers... the casting of people best known for comedies, like Jon Pertwee, Bernard Cribbins and Catherine Tate...

I will say it’s ok not to agree on this. I am sorry the joke doesn’t land the same way for everyone. I rather like it but it is an incredibly lazy joke so reasonable fans CAN disagree.

I know dr who can be silly, going against nonsensical entities etc. and they have skirted the line, 11 dancing with Laurel and hardy. But the 1st doctor had a memorable quote when he was having a heartfelt talk to Barbara in The Aztec. You cannot change history. And didn't the doctor already throw apples at Newton?
