He still is "the First Doctor", as everyone refers to him as such. I personally prefer to think of Hartnell as the original, but there's plenty of evidence pointing towards him not being, until that was retconned out of existence (with Mawdryn Undead, if I'm not mistaken). Namely, the faces in The Brain of Morbius, and the fact that in The Power of the Daleks, it looks to all the world like it isn't the first time he's renewed/regenerated.
