I don't think they changed the origins of Isaac Newton. Given that scene was about changing the word gravity to mavity, I don't think accuracy was the main goal.

All I'd say really is if we can stop being nostalgic for a moment, many of the "issues" in these three episodes are also issues with his era the first time around. It was still progressive, but a) we didn't notice it as much because children don't and b) it was pre-social media so most people either watched or didn't, but it wasn't as easy to share your complaints with the world. Also, in terms of him pulling out resolutions from nowhere... that's a RTD staple at this point.

FWIW, I've found these episodes fine if not breathtaking, but mostly on a level with the best of the Chibnall years. Room for improvement, but it's probably better that way!

Here’s some of my opinions on the specials

1. (Ok this isn’t about the specials but I still want to give me opinion on this) Seriously Russel? Did you have to change Davros? Because you and the crew viewed those with handicaps as being evil so you changed Davros even though Davros proved those with such attributes can do large impactful things no matter good or evil despite their apparent weaknesses (besides Davros is more of the archetypical mad scientist), way to give out your real feelings towards a group while wanting to appear virtuous you fool!

2. Rose saving the day by being non-binary felt like Russel wrote himself into a corner and just used a random logic loophole that someone defeats Beep.

3. I’m really disappointed how close the specials were released, compare it to the specials in 2009 that allowed fans to discuss each special on give more excitement for the next special to come. Felt like this time the BBC wanted to rush it to have a Christmas special for the first time in years

4. Speaking of Christmas specials I feel The Giggle should’ve been the Christmas special. Since the Celestial Toymaker often loves the idea of toys and games, what better than to use the time of year people feel is being over commercialized and having large amounts of toys being marketed and not focusing on family or more spiritual matters

5. You know for a show that still uses time travel you’d think it would still want to accurately portray historical figures, it was bad how non Chinese actors were used in Marco Polo and I don’t see any difference how Sir Isaac Newton was portrayed in Wild Blue Yonder (even if it’s a nod from RTD to a show of a friend). You’d think with how the Netflix Cleopatra show was rightfully critiqued by the Egyptian government for its historical inaccuracies (to be point they’re suing Netflix) you’d think the BBC wouldn’t want the same publicity.

Hopefully this new Doctor wouldn’t face the same writing problems as the recent seasons because if not…..there needs to be a miracle to save Doctor Who from its current slump

@Lord Darkseid Is Not Pleased I'm not sure what publicity you're referring to with the Newton thing. I've not seen anyone on here mention it once until today (over a week after it aired), and there's clearly been no enormous backlash. Also, look at things like Bridgerton. There are more important things in life than accuracy. (Also, it's not like there are any photos of Newton.)

I also think you've misunderstood the Davros change. He's not trying to seem virtuous, he's trying to stop people in the future, particularly children now, associating disabilities with evil. How is that a bad thing?

@FH2104 if children went this long knowing how Davros became evil from his life, to his background, his environment and directly showed war torn Skaro in The Witch’s Familiar and what Davros had to deal with, I’m pretty kids won’t believe Davros was evil because his war injuries left him immobile despite what Russel believes.

Also I mentioned the Isaac Newton example as people are worried about the erasure of history now and seeing one of the most important astrophysicists portrayed inaccurate may appear like an insult despite the creators intentions.

Ngl the whole Isaac Newton issue does feel a bit backwards. I can ignore it for just the small scene, but it doesn't feel particularly progressive based on current cultural norms. The definition of equality implies that if it's wrong to swap one race with another, then it's wrong to swap all. Makes me wonder how we'll come to see it in a few years.

I think what a lot of people kind of expected going into this was something big like the 50th anniversary. While 60 is a big number and something to celebrate, it’s not as significant as 50 and thus the specials shouldn’t be held to the same standard. I see this as kind of like the Three Doctors tenth anniversary special in that it was a big, fun event but didn’t have to be anything too spectacular.
