One of the better "Companion's First Adventure" episodes, and sets up pretty much all of Clara's characterization but still flawed and hampered by the production disaster that was S7.
For me, it’s neither good nor bad - just very forgettable. I’ve watched it numerous times over the years and still can’t really remember that much about it.
I think it’s a good episode mainly for the reason that it’s quite like a classic episode. You could easily place this episode in Tom Baker or Davison’s era. The nostalgic feeling cancels out the fact a sun-god was defeated by a leaf.
It's a so so Eleven and Clara adventure.
I really like the central idea that the potential of a single unlived life contains more life energy and potential experiences than even a life as long as the Doctor's. But being able to substitute a leaf for a person was too abrupt - I don't think they really laid enough groundwork for us to have any reason to expect that would work.
For me, it's pretty awful. It's visually quite impressive and I like the colour palette, but that's just about it. Too many villains, too many endings, a really terrible story that goes nowhere soooo slowly, gaping plot holes that are difficult to ignore, and woeful grandstanding from Matt Smith. I think series 7 part 2 is Smith's strongest, and overall it's pretty good. But to me, this episode is dreadful.
This story is very good, but mainly for clara's story at the very beginning, the rest of the episode is okay and is enjoyable.
It's another one of those divisive episodes. Good concept but not executed well
I honestly think it's quite underrated.
I thought it was amazing, I honestly don't see why people hate it so much. I mean what's not to love? There was a very moving speech brilliantly delivered by Matt Smith, excellent chemistry between him and Jenna Coleman and I personally loved the alien bazaar thing PLUS the reference to the Doctor's granddaughter, Susan. New companion's first few episodes are always a bit shaky but all in all I thought it was great.
