For me, it’s either John Bennett as Li Hsen Chang (Talons of Weng-Chiang), Peter Jeffrey as Count Grendel (Androids of Tara) or John Carson as Ambril (Snakedance).
British actors can do good American accents (Robert Shaw in Jaws is an excellent example). However, I’ve seen a lot of ITC shows from the 60s, and the fake American accents are sometimes horrible; the Brits seem to think we all come from Texas.
American actors doing British accents is worse though: Keanu Reeves’ accent in the 90s Dracula is horrible...
William Hartnell - Jeeves
Patrick Troughton - George Smiley
Jon Pertwee - Scrooge
Peter Davison - Rudolf Rassendyll (The Prisoner of Zenda)
Can’t think of any for Tom Baker, Colin Baker or McCoy.
For the classic series:
1. The Savages
2. The Invasion
3. Inferno
4. The Talons of Weng-Chiang
5. Snakedance
6. The Ultimate Foe
7. The Greatest Show in the Galaxy
For the Classic Series:
1. The Celestial Toymaker
2. The Highlanders
3. The Claws of Axos
4. The Invasion of Time
5. The King’s Demons
6. Attack of the Cybermen
7. Ghost Light
Delgado.
Worst season of Doctor Who. Battlefield is decent, Ghost Light is terrible, Curse of Fenric isn’t much better while Survival is an alright way to end the series.
For me, it’s either John Bennett as Li Hsen Chang (Talons of Weng-Chiang), Peter Jeffrey as Count Grendel (Androids of Tara) or John Carson as Ambril (Snakedance).
The Ultimate Foe. The Two Doctors is a close second.
Tough one. Inferno or Spearhead from Space.
I have just heard that Derrick Sherwin has passed away. He served as script editor for various Patrick Troughton stories, wrote The Invasion and produced The War Games and Spearhead from Space. His death leaves Philip Hinchcliffe as the sole surviving classic series producer.
The Visitation, Snakedance or Frontios.
I’m in the unpopular opinion, but Remembrance is the worst episode of this season. Silver Nemesis is slightly better, while The Happiness Patrol is much better than both of them. Greatest Show is probably the best episode, with T.P. McKenna giving an excellent performance as the Captain.
Tons of recognisable actors in this season: George Sewell (UFO), Ronald Fraser, Harold Innocent, Anton Diffing (Where Eagles Dare), Gerald Murphy (Waterworld), T.P. McKenna, Chris Jury (Lovejoy)...
Most of the episodes in this season aren’t bad; they’re just not very memorable. Time and the Rani handles the new Doctor’s introduction much better than the Second Doctor’s in The Power of the Daleks.
Most memorable scene is that great effect of Kane’s head melting in Dragonfire.
Best episode is Paradise Towers, worst is Dragonfire.
Talons/Deadly Assassin
Really good season. I always liked the opening music and there’s a bunch of excellent guest actors: Michael Jayston (Thriller), Lynda Bellingham, Brian Blessed (Z Cars), Honor Blackman (Goldfinger) and Michael Craig (Robin of Sherwood). My favorite season from the 80s.
I’m in the unpopular opinion, but The Space Pirates is a really good story with a great guest cast. The Savages is the perfect Doctor Who story, with Hartnell at his best, but it’s a rather low-key story with no deaths.
The Savages, The Space Pirates or Marco Polo.
It’s strange how the new trio (who’ve only been in two episodes so far) are ahead of Ian, Barbara and Susan. I also think it’s a funny how Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough are in the poll, despite only being a trio for two stories!
It’s easily the Third Doctor. He’s my second favorite doctor.
Inferno.
